All-
Amen, to that Raynette. I have a four year old, so this is not an issue, YET, but
I will have the computer in a place where I can monitor it when she is on it. When
I read the email asking for help, all I could think of was, do YOUR job as a
parent!!

My kids absolutely hate me for monitoring their computer. They are given laptops
from the high school every year, and want me to get wireless internet for our home.
I won't do it. I don't want them in their bedrooms perusing the internet whenever
they wish. Our only internet capable computer sits in my living room. If the
girls are in any sort of chat (msn, myspace, facebook), I can see every word they
write. If they try to shield me from it, they are done. If you can't type it in
front of mom, you shouldn't type it on the internet. If they abuse the
privilege, they lose it. I am not always my children's best friend. I am a parent
first. . .

I second that sigh and raise you an additional eyeroll. It sounds like the
child is bullying the parents as well as other kids. This kind of parenting
is part of the problem we, as teachers, face in trying to teach (or is that
  raise?) students.

Excuse me, folks, but have they tried "parenting"? You know, where the
adults in the family make the rules, where an 11-year-old is not allowed to
use a friend's computer, where there are consequences for one's actions....

With Nancy W., I have to add a major sigh as well...maybe even add an eye
  roll.
