Here is my original request:

Hello all,

My dad is in the hospital and he has a bad cold which wouldn't be so bad except
that he also has emphysema. He is having a lot of trouble and we are not sure he
is going to make it. I need ideas of books that can explain death, heaven etc. to
my 3rd old on why Daddy Dan is gone. Thank you.

Hello again:
I want to thank everyone for their book ideas for my daughter. I am tracking down
the titles to share with her. My Dad passed away on May 20 and I think the books
will really help her 3 year old mind handle this better.

Leo Buscaglia "The fall of Freddie the leaf"
Norma Simon The saddest time"
William C. Kroen "Helping children cope with the loss of a loved one"

Where is Grandpa? addresses the death of a Grandfather and how the
little boy can find reminders of him in the trees, the stream, etc. I
am not sure that it is on a three-year-old's level.

When my mom died, my daughter was in second grade and someone told her this story.

Iit really meant a lot to her. It's a cheap little book, and
actually I just ordered two of them because of the death of one of our students
who had a little brother, and one I wanted to keep for myself. Then one of my
kids at church lost a friend in a fire, so I sent the second one to their
family.

You can't go wrong on the price. It's not really a picture book, and
maybe the allegory would be lost on a three year old. Not sure.

Heaven, the next place is an exquisite picture book about heaven.
