I threw out my card catalogs 8 years ago. This year I threw out my shelf
lists. I am still hyperventilating from that move. I teach the DDS to my
K-5 students. And I do not see myself stopping those lessons anytime soon.
I teach it so that the kids CAN go to any library and find what they want
by themselves. I think today's kids are savvy enough to figure out Borders
and a library - they navigate all over the world on the internet for
heaven's sake.
I would be interested in hearing how this change goes over and if any
other libraries begin doing it.

"What a school thinks about its library is a measure of what it thinks
about education."
Howard Howe, former U.S. Commissioner of Education
