I have an 8th grade teacher looking to add a new novel to her teaching
next year. She wants something "upbeat". Everything they currently
teach is "depressing"---Night, Diary of Anne Frank, etc. I need
something that is NOT on this year's or last year's Texas Lone Star
list-too many of the kids have already read them, and that will appeal
to a wide range of students. My school is largely lower-socio-economic,
with an ethnicity pretty evenly split among African-American, Hispanic
and Caucasian-we have few Asian students. Of course, we need these
suggestions yesterday!
I welcome any suggestions!
Thank you,
