Our kids are all "abuzz". The end of the year is here and we are letting them take
out books for the summer. You would think we were giving them gold - or at least
free food.
This is the time of year when we have to run the "overdue all" reports and we don't
want to have to separate out the summer loans. So our solution is to sign the
books out, print a list for us and a copy of the list for the student, and then
"return" them all, so that they won't mess up our end of the year overdue list.
We tried this for the first time last year and it was a big hit. The kids
literally took boxes of books home with them. We told them that all the books had
to be back by the 2nd week of school. We also told them that they would lose
summer loan privileges if the books did not come back on time. Every last book was
returned on time. It was amazing.
We don't make any general announcements - but the word spreads among the avid
readers. We do allow summer borrowing privileges to anyone who asks.
