[LM_NET] TAR: Budget allotment for student resources

Hello, LM_Netters,
I so enjoy reading all the questions and answers on this listserv. As a new 
librarian, I need all the advice I can get.

My question is this:  How much money should be allotted in the budget for 
each student?
The previous librarian calculated it like this -

JK-K - $25 per student (1 fiction, 1 nonfiction)
Gr 1-6 - $30 per student (1 fiction, 1 nonfiction)
Gr. 7-9 - $50 per student (2 fiction, 1 nonfiction)
Gr. 10-12 - $75 per student (2 fiction, 2 nonfiction)

My school is JK-12.  The high school section is smaller as it is the newest 
part of the school. I have to justify my budget to the director of my 
school. Right now I am receiving about $24 per student but that includes 
book processing and repair materials, magazines/journals (professional and 
student), new reference materials and staff PD materials.

Any thoughts on this? I have to make my case tomorrow morning.

PS My budget was slashed $10, 000 and I'm trying to recoup. :)
