Dear Virginians:

My prinicpal has decided that to save money and to increase the number of available
electives, that the librarian (that would be me) will teach three elective sections
of Library Media, one for each grade. All classes are to be taught in the library.

Besides that fact that I would be doing two jobs for one paycheck........This would
make it impossible for any teacher to bring all of his/her classes down any given
day. For example, if I always teach Library Media for half the day, no other class
could come in for reasearch, book talks, or whatever during that half of the day
because the space and I will be otherwise occupied.

In addition, they will be reducing my budget next year, while still expecting me to
purchase all the materials for the new classes.

Virginia dictates that schools of our population must have a fulltime librarian. If
I'm teaching an elective for half of the blocks, are they still following the rules?

I've tried explaining all the reasons it would be harmful to the library, the
school, and the kids. Can anybody think of anything else I could say or do to
dissuade my principal?

Thanks!
