School Library Journal has an article about changes made in the edition of the
World Book being marketed in the Republic of China, including an omission of the
Tiananmen Square crackdown in 1989 and the arrest of Falun Gong demonstrators in
1999, and a change in the status of Taiwan from a country to a province of China.

I called the 800 number on the World Book website to reach our local
representative, and informed her that we would be investigating alternative sources
for an encyclopedia, as I did not feel that we could trust an encyclopedia that
altered information to make it palatable to the political views of the government
of the country it was marketing in. The rep promised to bring it up with a
vice-president from the central World Book office.
