Good afternoon all:
The school year is ending and I just gave the library hamster to one
of our cleaners who is retiring and he had asked if he could have it.
Now I am wondering which animals seem to be best for the library
enviornment? I have had several different hamsters who were adorable
and actually served as a motivation to be "quieter" (Jacque is
sleeping children--try to keep things down to a mild roar) but now I
am thinking of getting something that may actually be awake during
the day. We do have a huge aquarium of fish in the school hallway
already so that isn't exciting to the students either.
Checking through the archives I can find many people "against" having
pets in the library for very valid reasons, but I would like to know
about some of the sucess stories. Which animals have the kids enjoyed
having around that are not smelly and do well with children? I don't
usually have them out and running around, but I do like to have things
that the students can at least play with under supervision. The kids
have told me they think I should get a rabbit but I am a little leary
of the mess and nuisance of one of them. Has anyone had one that can
give me pointers? I know one of the other teachers a few years ago had
one but didn't take good care of it so it was a mess, but what do
others think?

Thanks for your help!
