As requested, here is a hit of responses to travel near Dallas. . .

I don't know of any river boats, but there are gondola rides in the canals
at Las Colinas (a suburb). They have different packages and costs. The
Dallas Arboretum is really great. The Sixth Floor Museum in the old Texas
School Book Depository, is definitely something to see. Depending on where
you are staying, you might want to go to Ft. Worth, they have the stockyards
that are great - you feel like you are really in the Old West. They also
have a fantastic art museum and zoo.

Ohhh The women's museum is wonderful.

Since I don't know your taste in things to do...

Of course there is the Kennedy Assassination museum in downtown Dallas.

If you like art, there is an outstanding modern art center, next door to
the Dallas Museum of Art. Two places worthy of a visit.

If you want some "western" tourist events, try the Fort Worth (where the
west begins) Stockyard area. This area features "old west" things as well
as a rodeo every night. http://www.fortworthstockyards.org/
Fort Worth is 40 miles away...about a 45 minute drive.

for a boat ride, there is a hotel with a boat ride

Gondola Adventures offers boat rides on the Mandalay Canal in Las Colinas -
canal is adjacent to hotel
Williams Square, home of the largest bronze equestrian sculpture in the
world - 1 block

Off the top of my head:

-Obligatory suggestions include the Sixth Floor Museum, Dallas Museum of Art,
Nasher Sculpture Garden, Kimball Art Museum (in Ft. Worth), the Historic Ft. Worth
Stockyards

-Grapevine's annual Main Street Days festival is this weekend, at the historic
downtown area

-Dallas Blooms is the seasonal event that everyone goes to at the Dallas Arboretum:
beautiful botanical gardens on the edges of White Rock Lake.

-In terms of rivers, not much in this vicinity... but plenty of lakes...

-The Gaylord Texan on Lake Grapevine offers a lot in terms of dining and maybe some
entertainment options...

That's all I can think of for now.....

The Fort Worth Stockyards is kind of fun, and on the way there is an
enormous warehouse for HalfPrice books - maybe free books on Saturday? There
are several HalfPrice bookstores in Dallas - worth checkg out.

West End in downtown Dallas is fun! There are a few little shops there, and lots
of different restaurants. My favorite restaurant is Spaghetti Warehouse.

I'm unfamiliar with your musical likes but if the
Dallas Symphony is playing while you're there, they
are worth hearing.

Check on Lake Ray Hubbard they have a paddle boat at the marina. Not sure
it is Rockwall or Rowlett.

Arboretum at White Rock Lake there is walking, but also have a handicap
shuttle. Fort Worth Zoo is way better than Dallas. West End in Downtown
Dallas (School Book Depository 6th floor museum is right around the
corner). I'm not sure if the Old Red Court house that is becoming a museum
is open yet. You might check out the old train station. All of these are
in walking distance of the West End. (I'm 62 and could walk it) I am so Kid
oriented because of grandkids it's hard to think of Adult attractions.

There is dinner and a jousting match with real horses and the whole bit in Dallas.
I don't know the name of the restaurant but you could probably google for it. The
End is suppose to have interesting things as well.

I'm from Ft. Worth originally and we like to go to the rodeo in the Stockyards.
Lots of things to see there.

Have fun!

I know there are some lake tours, but not on the river! You would not
want to travel any where on the Trinity River!!! But there is plenty to
do in Dallas. South Fork Ranch is out side of town, downtown is chalk
full of stuff to do, 6 Flags if that is your taste, tons of museums, go
to http://www.dallaschamber.org/ for info. Good luck! have fun!

For a Riverboat experience, I think you will have to go to Granbury. Can't think
of anything like that in the immediate DFW area. Granbury is about 1 1/2 to 2
hrs. away from Dallas.

Dallas Arboretum, NorthPark Mall, West End for shopping and eating, Kennedy Museum,
Dallas Museum of Science (while there can drive around Fair Park). Those are the
ones in Big D that scream at me.

I have living in Arlington since 60, but we spend most of our free time in Fort
Worth.

Try the Texas Queen:

On Lake Ray Hubbard; 105-foot double-deck paddle wheeler offers dinner cruises
Reservations required. Departs from Elgin B. Robertson Park. Dalrock Rd. exit south
off I-30 East.

Alas, the Trinity River through Dallas is not ordinarily navigable, so there is no
river cruise. There is this lake cruise (http://www.shane-arts.com/txqueen.htm) but
it doesn't have very good reviews. May I suggest the Mesquite Rodeo? It's in its
50th year, and has a lot of entertainment and some really good Texas barbeque.
http://www.mesquiterodeo.com/ You need a car to get there, but it's worth the trip.
And it's air conditioned -- a necessity during the humid and often stormy spring.
