Hi,
I don't think the crux of the issue is fixed vs. flex. It has more to
do with how the media program is perceived and a profound
misunderstanding of the role of research and information in learning. We
need a radical overhaul of how we teach/learn to an essential
questioning and inquiry based philosophy where the library media center
plays a central role; we need to abolish the regurgitated state and
animal "research" reports and look to authentic problem based learning
in order to realize the full benefits of teaching information literacy
in a meaningful context. See SLJ's article on Joyce Kasman-Valenza's
high school for an inspirational model.
