Thanks to all who responded. A few people asked for a HIT, so here are the answers
I got (most people who assigned numbers used 371.8, a couple gave 050):
I have all mine catalogued : R 050 SPE. They are shelved in the Reference
section.
Ours is titled Spectrum
I catalog them in the ref section under: 371.8
YB 2006
In the 000's.
Yes, I catalog our yearbooks. Here's the marc record I created,
but warning, I am not a cataloger!
100 1 $aSpackenkill High School Yearbook Staff.
245 1 0 $aKaleidoscope$b/$cSpackenkill High School Yearbook
Staff.
260 $bJosten's,$c1970-.
500 $a1970 edition titled Echo 70: Spackenkill Junior H.S.
610 0 0 $aSpackenkill High School.
650 0 $aSchool yearbooks.
740 0 0 $aSpackenkill Yearbook.
They are cataloged as reference (371.8 SPA), but they are kept in our
back workroom and kids have to ask for them. They are library use only,
and we seat kids using them right near the circ desk, but we STILL have
trouble with pictures and pages getting cut out. I try to keep one copy
in the back that doesn't circulate at all, and the other copies are the
ones I let kids look at.
I keep them in a file cabinet in my workroom. They are cataloged as:
REF
371.8
I really shouldn't say I catalog yearbooks but in theory I do.
I use the prefix YRB [name of school] [year] as the call number. We actually have a
couple yearbooks from other schools in our collection, thus the name of school.
I've got fifty (only) years worth of yearbooks and it hasn't been a priority to add
bar codes but eventually we will.
Here @ ***, we save but don't
catalog our yrbks: we just shelve them by date.
What did here was put them in Reference using the call number 371.805.
I cataloged them like a serial, with an open volume number. I add the
issues to the main record as the come out each year. My yearbooks do
not circulation. I use subject tracings of 1) School yearbooks, 2)
Harvest Christian Academy Yearbooks.
Below are the key parts to the MARC record for the yearbooks at my school.
Title 245 0 0 _a Chief yearbook /
_c North Myrtle Beach High School.
Var Form of Title 246 3 _a North Myrtle Beach High School annual yearbook.
Phys Description 300 _a v. : ill.
Summary Note 520 _a North Myrtle Beach High School yearbook.
Local Note 590 _a For in library use only.
Subj: Topical 650 7 _a School yearbook
_2 sears
Subj: Topical 650 7 _a Yearbooks.
_2 sears
Subj: Topical 650 7 _a High School annual.
_2 sears
The call number we use based on Sears is:
371.8 CHI where CHI stands for the first three letters in the title Chief yearbook.
I do, but that's because I am also the yearbook adviser. I do nothing but put
them in according to their year. I do put a barcode on them too. Hope this helps.
thanks again,
