I have this problem only with Discovery Store. I've tried to explain the concept of
Fair Use, but am talking to a clerk who is doing what she is told. The way we get
around it is to have the teacher buy it on their own, and get reimbursed by the
Business Office. It's a pain, but I've had no luck otherwise. Hope this helps.

  Colleagues,
I have the same problem, and got a letter from Discovery Store
yesterday. Futurecars was one of the videos. I tried other places to
buy it from, and they too did not have the videos.
This is frustrating as the Discovery Store sends me to the Discovery
Education store, and the same scenario. They did not have it too. I
think the teacher who wanted to show the videos in his classroom will be
more frustrated than the unhelpful bunch at Discovery Store. I thought
they were focused on Educational resources. Apparently not!!

Subject: TARGET:Public Performance & Discovery

MY QUESTION: I thought that copyright laws permitted classroom viewing
of
any video legally obtained. THE REASON FOR ASKING: One of our
science
teachers wanted to use episodes of "Mythbusters" to demonstrate the
scientific method, and requested that I purchase several episodes from
the
Discovery Channel. After submitting a purchase order, Discovery Channel
had
two responses: They would not accept purchase orders under $150; Their
programs did NOT come with public performance rights, and therefore were
not permitted to be shown in classrooms. They suggested that we search
the
Discovery Teacher Store for programs WITH performance rights. We were
able
to find and purchase some of the Mythbusters episodes, but not the
specific
ones my teacher had requested. Now other teachers have requested
Discovery
Channel programs, "Future Cars" and "Planet Earth". I've checked the
Discovery Teacher store, and the Planet Earth that they offer is an
older
version, but no version of Future Cars is listed. So, any thoughts?
Can I
purchase the videos that we want from the Discovery Store and legally
show
them in the classroom?
