Terri Jeffrey states, "Perhaps we can educate parents that this is an
incentive that might work for some kids and families, but not for all and
help them think of other ways to celebrate their child's reading
accomplishments."
Why not suggest the parent make this a special night out with a child? If
one child in the family gets the pizza, but the others aren't eligible, then
let Mom or Dad schedule a "date night" with that one child. They get their
pizza and time alone with a parent. If the parent doesn't want to buy
something to eat, they can pack a sack for themselves and go on a picnic of
sorts.
I would think that even if everyone goes to pick up the pizza and no one
else gets a pizza, that would be an incentive for the others to work for one
when it is their turn.
