I am seeking reasons/justification/advantages (even dis if any)/ for a
change in my elementary school schedule. Here is my situation:
1. preK-5 / 2 or 3 teachers each grade = 15 teachers in my class load
2. I am teacher planning to get common planning time among the grade levels
3. Week A / Week B schedule.
4. Other resource specialists include WEEK A: LMS, PE, Guidance / Week B
same as Week A but add Music ( I don't think guidance has classes on week B
so scractch him. So on any given week 3 specialists offer teacher planning
5. Non class duties written in/on current schedule include 4 / 30 min
periods when I am assisting classes in techn lab along with teacher a.k.a.
remediation; various times for LIBRARY DUTIES/AR for 2 grades at one time;
LIBRARY DUTIES; OPEN FOR RESEARCH BY SCHEDULE; PLANNING each day; MORNING
DUTIES such as car rider duty.
6. I see each class once a week for circulation ( "check in/check out")
followed by seeing 1/2 of each grade each week for instruction which I call
"information literacy" ; pre-K comes once a week only. This gives me 21
classes weekly.
7. 40 minutes for both purposes/ each class
I want to drop the extra or as some define as "call back" time which in my
schedule is the instruction time called "information literacy" and have the
usual once a week visit. Due to a small school, that opens up 6 slots and
you know how principals can plug in duties much worse than what I had.
I know ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL about the slots opening up collaboration
opportunities so no real reason to go there. I need some other reasons
for deleting the instruction periods.
##### Also, reasons are needed for keeping the once a week visit for
circulation ONLY and not doing any teaching at that time as is the case in
most once a week visits. Too brisk and too much to fill one 40-45 minute
period. OR should the the weekly visit time increase if principal will
agree to my request but want instruction to occur in the weekly visit? (
compromise)
I will appreciate all and any of your ideas, wisdom, suggestions, and
persuasive, proven tips.
Thanks a BUNCH !
