[LM_NET] ELL Section of Library

Hi all, 
I am at a grade 4-5 school and we have a rapidly growing ELL population. While we 
have many students who come in with limited proficiency in their native language, 
we are getting quite a few who are good native language readers. I am frustrated 
that while they are learning English, they are missing out on the pleasure and 
experience of reading. Not to mention the opportunity to work in book clubs or 
literature circles with their English speaking classmates.

My question is this- do any of you have a section of your library devoted to these 
students. I envision purchasing fiction books as well as non-fiction that would 
allow these students to continue in their own language.  I know it might be 
impossible to get books from all the languages we have, but would helping some be 
better than helping none?

How has this worked in your schools? What resources have you used? Any thoughts or 
ideas?

I am hoping to work with the ELL teacher to get a local grant to fund this- if this 
makes a difference to anyone.
