Science has now been added to our state's test. Now that so much emphasis
has been placed on the "test", many teachers in our middle school do not
bring their classes to the media center because they must work on skills in
the classroom and do not feel they have time for anything else until after
the test is given each year.
Because I am always looking for ways to encourage content area teachers to
be involved in reading, I am making a list of novels that contain science
themes, such as Flush by Hiaasen, and The Gadget by Zindel. Does anyone
have suggestions for activities science teachers could incorporate into
their classes using these fictional books?
