Three years ago, I had a book that wasn't checked in, but the child was
positive he had returned it. Same thing this year with another child and a
book due in early November. In neither case did I make a big to-do or
insist on payment. (Thank goodness.) Well....this April, as I watched
students return stacks of books to our big, spring-bottom, box style book
return, I saw a thin paperback slide between the bottom and side of the
receptacle. After unloading the return bin, I wrestled it on it's side, and
peered through a small, half-moon opening. There were books in there! With
much effort (and rolling of the books) I retrieved six books. Who'd have
thought?!
