Several asked for a hit. I may need to clarify that these are not checked out
books that kids haven't returned, as many assumed; these are books that Follett
says are available but are not in the library. I also work in a 3 entrance
fishbowl, so security systems are out of the question.
I got all sorts of replies ranging from "225 seems high, are you sure these aren't
deleted books" to "I've heard you should expect up to 5%" to success stories about
getting books back from kids later.
Others objected to my use of the word "stolen." What other word would you use for
"taken without permission in violation of rules and never returned"? "Permanently
borrowed"?
Sorry for venting, but I highly value honesty and integrity, and I hate it that the
rich kids I work for don't.
