I wrote in earlier about a friend that is a librarian. She was assigned to work in
the Front office to what amounts to 8 1/2 hours each week. I told her that I
didn't think the librarian should be working outside of the library that much. I
asked you if this was typical of what librarians were asked to do.
Thanks to all of you that responded. It seems like it depends on the state that
you work in and the type of school. I had some that had to do outside work that
was equal or even more to my friends and others that only worked in the library
without any extra duties.
I passed the emails on to my friend. She did talk to the Vice Principal and
explained that teachers were calling her for help when she was at the Front Desk
and she felt that she wasn't able to do her job. He took her off of Front Desk
duty except for one lunch hour a week. It seems that there were other Office
Workers that were available to cover her spot. She doesn't mind helping them, but
she just gets frustrated when she is asked to come in when the other workers don't
want to work up there. Hopefully next year she won't have to go through the same
thing all over again.
Thanks for all of your input. It did help her.
