In regard to Dora Salm's question about paint color choices for libraries,
please see my article "Looks Like Teen Spirit" in School Library Journal
(Nov.): 44+. Also
available at: http://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/article/CA6386669.html.
The article talks about creating a welcoming space for teens in your library
is an important part of good teen service. It outlines the major elements of
successful teen space in school and public libraries. Information on
getting teen input, layout 101, finding teen style, furniture, color, and
design are presented.
Also, see "Library Design Tips for the 21st Century." WebJunction (March
2006). Available at: http://webjunction.org/do/DisplayContent?id=13018
Practical and simple tips are presented that consistently lead to the most
successful space projects, whether planning a new building, an expansion,
renovation, or a simple re-vamp.
Lastly, take a look at Teen Spaces: The Step-by-Step Library Makeover (ALA
Editions, 2003). The new edition is coming out in 2008 and I am currently
looking for model libraries to include, so maybe Dora's space or another
school library space you know of might be perfect for inclusion. I'm
looking for small to large projects on budgets small and large. See
http://indielibrarian.blogspot.com/search/label/submission%20form for more
details as well as more information on library spaces for teenagers.
Feel free to contact me directly if you have further questions or
suggestions for the new Teen Spaces book.
Best,
Kim

Subject: Paint Choices/Library
Hello, all:
This may seem like a really silly question, but we are going to be painting
our library over the summer (small, school library in a private school).
Any ideas on best paint colors/finishes to use? Please respond offlist when
you get a chance!
Many thanks,
Dora Salm
