I have several students in my school that physically cannot sit still for a lesson
or a story. I drove me crazy to get them to settle down and not interrupt me or
disturb others. I sat next to an EBD teacher at a reading conference and she was
playing with a small plastic toy. I asked about them and they are called Tangles.
She had been to a conference and said she bought them for her ADHD kids so that
they had something to keep their hands busy while concentrating on a lesson. She
brought some with because sitting in meetings was difficult for her. The light bulb
came on. At the time I couldn't find them anywhere so I ordered some online and
they have been great. The kids who need to fiddle grab one out of the bag and we
have lessons that go more smoothly. I should have caught on to this earlier because
I too am a fiddler. The Tangles are small enough not to be distracting. The kids
can manipulate them, feel the different textures, pull them apart and put them
together aga!
