[LM_NET] tech: programs not opening

Help, please! All of a sudden tonight, my shortcut icons on the desktop have little 
white boxes in the bottem left corner with an arrow pointing diagonally up to the 
right - and the programs won't open.

Does anyone know what might have happened? I am running Windows XP on an Acer 
laptop and use MacAfee virus protection.

Any thought would be appreciated. I tried running a MacAfee scan, but it ran on and 
on and on updating...
