Would someone more familiar with this legislation address something for me and the
other members of the list? I'm all for the idea of mandating that every single
school has a certified school library media specialist; I'm in the field because I
believe we make a difference. However, an element brought up to me by a school
administrator has me concerned. Is there funding backing this mandate up? How are
schools supposed to pay for this certified media specialist if there is no money
provided for them to do so?
Please help educate me about this issue! I can't in good conscience support this
legislation if it means taking money away from other worthy programs that might not
have gotten the governments attention yet. I'm not saying the idea is without
merit; I think there are huge benefits to having a media specialist in every
building, but there needs to be money provided as well!
