I'm not talking about disrespect from the students. They loved my classes.
I'm talking about disrespect from the principal and the rest of the school's
teachers. Somehow, they felt that I was on a sub-par level when compared to
them, even though I had already taught for 20 years and have two Master's
Degrees, much more education than any of them had. Pretty much, I was
treated like a doormat, like I was their slave who had to do their very beck
and call. I never had this kind of problem when I was a regular teacher. I
always got along great with the rest of my collegues. But as soon as I
started working in a school library, I could not tolerate the lack of
respect for my profession or even for my space. The principal was watching
over my shoulder all day long, and when I complaind that the janitors where
messing up my audio visual collection, she took the sides of the
janitors...can you believ that. I was simply flabbergasted, when even the
janitors got more respect than I did. Now, I'm looking for a school library
job again, but I have this gut feeling that the same thing is going to
happen all over again. I can put up with a lot of things, but one thing that
I will not put up with is being treated disrespectfully. I have a job
interview today, but I really don't want to go cause I really don't want the
job. What am I to do?
