Some great ideas - thanks, everyone!
READ Poster Presentation Suggestions:
My request:
I recently purchased 14 ALA celebrity read posters. They measure 22"
X 34". I am teaching in Monterrey, Mexico, so maybe that has
something to do with it, but the only frames I can find for them
measure 24" X 36". I want them to look nice, so I'm not inclined to
go with just laminating them and putting them on walls, but at the
same time I can't afford custom framing either. Will those of you who
have these posters on display in your libraries be so kind as to tap
back with how you have them presented? Laminated? custom frames? "Off
the rack" frames that also happen to fit? Matting the slightly-too-
large frames? Other?
Responses:
Ours are simply laminated and hung. – Melanie Mubarak
Hi Beau,
I don't have any of the posters that you describe, but I had a
similar problem with some poster prints of artwork I got for my
home. None of the "standard" size cheap frames fit--they were all
just a shade too big. What I did was cut black paper to fit the
frame, and then taped the poster to the black paper (trying to center
the posters was the hardest part). This way, the frames are not so
obviously too big, but you don't have to do any matting, which is
expensive. I think the black edge looks nice, actually.
Perhaps this will work for you? Good luck!

I have mine laminated & hang from the tops of my windows - they go
all the way across that wall. I have very limited wall space
(bookshelves or windows only), so I didn't have many choices.
I am attaching some pictures. The worse thing with the lamination
is the glare....

Why not mount them on styrofoam boards. I do it all the time.. You
can hang them from the ceiling if you mount a poster on both sides
and then
punch a hole in the top of the board. They really fill the library
when displayed from the ceiling.
Hope this helps

I ordered the hanger "kits" from Demco because I wanted to hang
posters from my ceiling tiles in the library. The system is called
"sign-EEZ: sign hanging system and it's on page 221 of 2004 catalog.
The posters are not framed but there is a magnetic piece on the
bottom which holds them in place nicely. I have been pleased with the
hangers.

We just laminate ours and hang them, but you could probably find some
not too expensive poster board or mounting board at an art supply
store that is the same as your frame size and then glue the posters
to those and your cheaper frames would work. Another option might be
to ask for a parent who likes to do woodwork to make you some or
maybe your school district even still has wodshop classes! Buy cheap
wood you can paint and get your glass from a glass shop. they can
cut it to size and it's usually very cheap. Buying it from a frame
store is usually a lot more expensive.

Our Kinko's in town donates one per month (God bless them!) - it
comes out to 24x36 with the white border around it. They laminate it
and mount it on white foamboard with sticky stuff on it. We put them
in our display case with books recommended by the student who is in
the poster. Hope this helps! – Ellen Taylor
