[LM_NET] Suburban Chicago SLMS Position

Community Unit School District 201 in Westmont, Illinois has an opening
at Westmont High School for an energetic school library media
specialist. WHS is unique as it is a small high school in suburban
DuPage County approximately 20 miles west of downtown Chicago. It is one
of only two high schools in DuPage under 1000 students with an
enrollment of 550. WHS is a school that is coming into its own by
improving its academic and student services programs. This year 16% of
the senior class were named as Illinois State Scholars which is defined
to recognize the top 10% of students statewide. The school has doubled
its number of Advanced Placement courses in the last two years and is a
leading participant in the Illinois Virtual High School program. 

WHS has not had a strong library media program in the past and the
administrative team and the Board of Education are hoping to change
that. This is an opportunity for a SLMS to build an outstanding program
nearly from scratch in a supportive and collaborative environment. The
print collection is in decent shape thanks to the previous SLMS, but the
classroom connections and the electronic resources are not as strong as
they should be. The successful candidate will be able to build on a
strong information literacy based sender program at Westmont Junior High
School. The candidate will also have the assistance of a highly
motivated and high achieving library aide. The successful candidate
should be fluent with technology as well as being strong in traditional
library skills. The preferred candidate would have previous high school
teaching experience and a MLS from an ALA/NCATE accredited program. This
year's starting salary for a teacher with a MLS and no experience is

$46,211 plus a highly competitive benefit package.
