But I think we've come full circle on the question....because I think that
"What Makes A Classic?" is our question.

My idea of "classic literature" for children may actually be considered
"modern classics"---- I have a degree in English (literature, grammar, etc.)
and truly HATE killing a great book in class.  I'd much rather read "modern
classics"...including children's literature....than the writings of "dead,
white men."

I'm probably more contemporary than what I'm being seen as through what I've
written only because I find that most students (and some teachers) aren't
even aware of the "modern classics" that I truly love and share with them.
(And I'm talking those titles from 1960 +.)

Just my two cents....spend them wisely.
