[LM_NET] David Copperfield Readalikes

Hello!  I was wondering if there are any of you out there who have a list of books 
that have similar themes to those in Charles Dickens David Copperfield?  For 
example, determination, perseverance, heroism, love and loss, coming of age.  The 
problem I am running into is that this novel is taught to 7th grade students and 
many of the novels I am finding that deal with the theme of coming of age are not 
age appropriate for them and I wouldn't have the books in my library.
   
  I would greatly appreciate any help as my list is pretty small right now!
