LM_Netters,
I am looking for activities to help build a community of readers/
learners at a new K-5 school that will open next fall. I immediately
thought of one book-one school activities. It is a K-5 school,
probably about 60% free and reduced lunch population with about 30%
ESL (Hispanic and Marshall Islanders). One title that I have thought
about is Max's Words. I am not sure that it will be out in paperback
format by August. Do you have other suggestions for titles? Also,
have any of you run such a program for a K-5 school and would be
willing to share ideas (things that worked and those that did not).
Also, how do I get the teachers to buy into the idea--especially
since they will not be hired until April or May and most will not
have worked with me or each other before? I will post a hit.
Thanks,
