Ditto, Kathy! I had no interest in reading Twilight; I remember thinking, "Vampire
love? I so don't think so!" I am not a reader of fantasy fiction at all. But it
seemed that almost every 8th grade girl who came in our library was reading it and
talking about it! The next thing I knew, the guys were reading it, too, because
the girls were telling them how great it was. Stephenie Meyer then appeared at a
bookstore in Houston, so I went to hear her speak. There were so many people
there, they had to put her on a platform in the parking lot behind the store! I
bought the books, and that weekend I read Twilight in one afternoon. Did the same
with New Moon a week later. Meyer tells a good story and makes even a vampire seem
"human"(?). Is it great literature? Is it the best YA novel I've ever read? No,
but it's still a great, fun read.
