When I was a student, we had those nifty periodical guides, but now
that we have online access to many, I'm not sure they even publish
them any more.
So, I turn to you, oh wise ones, to ask a periodicals cataloguing
question.
If you even catalogue your periodicals (I know some schools don't)
how specific are you in the subject and title fields? I have a large
pile of donated National Geographics, which have a wealth of
information, but I'm not sure how best to help students access it.
Currently, I am taking the time to put the headline on the cover as
the 'remaining title' in 245 b but I am not including any of the
various topics in the subject headings. I've considered putting
article headings in a 505 field, but I'm not sure if it's worth the
time it takes, especially if there is a source out there already that
will help them.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
