The very first Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production will be
announced in just two weeks! Get ready for this addition to the American
Library Association's recognition of the very best in children's and young
adult literature. This ground-breaking recognition of audiobooks as a
literary genre is also the first time two ALA divisions, the Association for
Library Services to Children & the Young Adult Library Services Association,
have jointly sponsored an award. Learn more about the Odyssey here:

If you are attending ALA Mid-winter, I hope to see you in the audience as
the Odyssey winner & possible honor titles are revealed. If you can't be
there in person, be sure to bookmark this link to the live webcast of the
Youth Media Awards: http://tinyurl.com/39xdbp The announcements will begin
at 7:45am EST on January 14th. Log on early, as there will be a limited
number of log-ins available.
Want to hear some of your favorite authors discuss audiobooks? Listen to the
podcast of Celebrating Excellence in Audiobooks for Children and Young
Adults <http://tinyurl.com/2kbwkl>, a session presented at ALA Annual on
June 23, 2007. You'll hear Judy Blume, Bruce Coville, Jack Gantos & John
Green in an informal and entertaining salute to audiobooks.
Please be sure to include the Odyssey winner & honor titles as you create
displays with the 2008 Newbery, Caldecott, Printz, Geisel, Sibert,
Schneider, Batchelder, Arbuthnot & Carnegie titles. I hope you'll agree that
the Odyssey is a welcome addition to the roster of difficult-to-spell ALA
awards!
