Original Post:
We have not yet started officially until after Labor Day, but I want to get a
head start on my planning.
I was talking with one of my 4th grade teachers and they are planning on a
large nutrition unit.
Any ideas for activities or web sites? Would the book Chew on This work?
I am open to anything.

British title Vegetable Glue is really cute and 4th

I just did a exercise/nutrition themed emphasis collection plan for a class
I am doing for my MLIS. I found a government website called 5 A Day : 5 a
Day: Eat 5 to 9 Fruits and Vegetables for Better Health
(http://www.cdc.gov/5aday) by National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention
and Health Promotion (U.S.). Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity.
It's pretty good.
I've copied all the titles I think will fit your nutrition collection

green monster, shown learning alongside his young human friends, will draw
some interest, and in an age of childhood obesity, this overview offers
teachers and parents useful passages to start discussions about healthy
habits." Horn Book (Fall 2006) - "The "monster" aspect is underused and
appears to be a gimmick, but the comprehensive health information is right
on." Library Media Connection (October 2006) - "This is certainly not an

The government website has really good information and online activities the
are teaching. The Dole has some too. These are a few that I have used in
papers that I have written for college classes. I also use them at school when I
am asked to talk the kids on the guide lines that I have to use in the school
kitchen.
