All right, I am weakening on this and I really need advice. I am in a K-8
school. I have always been a traditionalist, shelving fiction by author's
last name. This year, I have been tapped to teach computer skills during
library time so I am in two places at once. I cannot help students find
appropriate books because I an standing in the doorway between the computer
lab and media center supervising both rooms. I am also in charge of
distributing the new science books and materials. It is only the 4th week
of school and I am already counting the days until May.
I have 2nd graders trying to check out Harry Potter and other YA titles.
I am about ready to just start shelving books by genre, age level, or even
by lexile. Any suggestions? My situation isn't likely to improve this year
and I am trying to find ways to make my life easier.
Also, how many people alphabetize their easy collections? When I leave on
Friday afternoon, I have read my fiction, including easy, and put them all
in proper order. Am I crazy?
