Colleagues:

Last week I got an email asking whether I knew any more about the
impending advent of digital TV. I didn't know any more, and since I'm a
bit of a pessimist, I'm not going to do much about it until it actually
arrives. We do next to nothing with broadcast tv here - everything is
dvd or VHS, and the sets themselves are Channel One sets.

I put out the questions to one of my amateur radio lists, and got
several good replies. The best one, though, is just two links: one to
the FCC FAQ site, and the second to a news article about the digital to
analog converters.

Digital TV FAQ from the FCC

Article about LG and DTV converters for $60

I hope these two will help those of you who are buying new stuff to make
wise decisions.

In answer to my question about whether this change will improve the
quality of the programming, I was told that it would not, but that the
garbage would just look better. Looks like our home tv antenna will soon
become a ham radio antenna.
