Hi, folks . . .

A great book is to be "launched" at a publisher-sponsored party in Ranch
Cordova, just east of Sacramento, CA, on Saturday, September 8th. The
author, Kiyo Sato, has, along with her colleagues in the local Nisei post
of the VFW, has spoken to many school classes and assemblies over the last
twenty years or so, on the topic of the WW II Internment of some 120,000
Japanese Americans and related civil liberties issues. She is probably
known to some on this list in the region as a result of those speaking
engagements. The book is her memoir, Dandelion Through the Crack: the Sato
Family Quest for the American Dream (Nevada City, CA: Willow Valley Press,
2007). It is a beautiful book, fundamentally a story of family and of
becoming American, of overcoming adversity and seeking the American Dream.
It is extraordinary as both literature and history. I have worked, pro
bono, for nearly two and a half years to help it reach publication. (After
a half-dozen readings, I still find it entrancing.)

Here are the party details (it is open to the public, so consider
yourselves invited):

    Giant book launch party!

Rancho Cordova Community Center, Bldg. # 2
2197 Chase Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670
(Also see the "Events" page of www.DandelionThroughTheCrack.com for a
link to a map.)

My own formal review, including links to Internment and
civil-liberties-related issues and selected related curriculum guidelines,
will be published in a few months.

Regards,

Ken
