What great advice Toni and Shondra have given! Just as summer time is winding down
and my mind starts wandering back to school, I start to think of how make things
better...how to get more teachers to realize the importance and benefits of
collaboration.
My dilemma is getting time from the teachers to talk about ideas. Like Toni said,
they feel like "a lobster in a pot"! There is so much more expected (data, state
tests, new and more curriculum) that I feel like I'm "imposing" on their team
meeting time. Our school has a new principal this year and I hope to have more
support from her in helping me get some undivided attention during team meetings.
One definite success is connecting with a few teachers, make something work and
hope it is contagious! Another idea from a fellow librarian in my district is to
approach by saying, "What can I do to help you with ___?" I want to try using that
approach more this year and build on what I already have in place.
Thanks to Toni and Shondra for their words of wisdom and encouragement!
