If you have students that enjoy the Harry Potter series, I would suggest for your
students to read the Diane Duane series of wizardy novels; So You Want To Be a
Wizard, Deep Wizardry and High Wizardry. The setting for the 3 novels is New York
City, Queens and Southampton, Suffolk County, NY. The 2 main characters are in
middle school and they have stumbled across how to be wizard manuals. The question
is can you be a wizard and life a normal day to day life???
I am not a fantasy fiction reader but when I found out the setting was Long
Island, NY, I had to take the chance. I havent read any of the Harry Potter novels
and havent seen any of the movies. Even though this is about wizardry the
characters make it seem very possible to be a wizard leading a 'normal' day to day
life.
Take a chance
