Hi all,
I'm re-posting this target as I didn't get any responses. I did search the
Archives but didn't find any ideas with the except of The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer by Abbott which sounded a bit "trite."
I have a seventh grade teacher who is going to teach Tom Sawyer. A parent
is not comfortable with the language in the book ~ particularly the use of the
"n" word. The teacher has spent time with the parent and tried to explain
that the use of the word is a period piece relevant to the book and that it
gives a wonderful opportunity to discuss words such as this and how
inappropriate the word has become in our culture. However, the mother is still
very
uncomfortable with the book and would like an alternative choice for her son.
The mother is adamant that her child will not read this book so the teacher is
starting to panic.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help. Please contact me off the list serve.
I'll post a hit with any suggestions.
