In one of the posts for either this topic or the future of libraries
somebody said their principal walks through and is frustrated about
5,000 feet of under utilized space (while looking at the T-L as if it's
their fault!)
I say look at principal square in the eye and say, I totally agree, I
have met with and purchased for and kept abreast of, I am constantly
sending out information on creative ideas and websites to the teachers
and it has still been five years since I've seen the science classes for
any project besides typing up their experiment results, never seen
the... or the..., the most frequent are some of the English teachers and
one of the health teachers. I am open to any suggestions you may have
to get the teachers and their classes to fully utilize the facilities
and my expertise in their curriculum.
It takes two to tango! It takes at least two to collaborate!
Next time you are meeting with the principal for any reason, or for your
post evaluation interview, ask them for ideas on how to get the staff to
use the facilities (and you) more often and more effectively? Make sure
that you've led up to this point; detailing everything that you are
doing.
Make sure that you are tooting your horn in your 10-week reports (or
what-ever your schedule is) and that your principals really do know and
see what you are doing to make connections and now you want some ideas
from them on how to get the teachers and their classes on board?
Let's put our principals to work motivating the teachers! Is it part of
the teacher's evaluation? Are the principals suggesting and motivating,
dare I say "requiring," collaborative teaching practices?
