I think it's so interesting that both these topics are being discussed.


 

I think/hope that most school librarians are teachers first and
librarians second. Our job is not the typical library job in that we
focus on teaching and supporting teachers. Our clientele is small and
very specific, and we need to understand their job so that we can do
ours effectively and efficiently. My classes were also heavily weighted
toward technology, and I was surprised when I moved from Florida to
Massachusetts that we were separate from the technology support staff.
Our district librarians have fought hard to be recognized as technology
savvy teachers whose job includes, indeed focuses on, electronic
resources as well as print and audio-visual media. I think we will be
needed more in the future, not less, as staff and students realize how
difficult finding authoritative and accessible information is-
