Dear All,
Here's a HIT about my post.
There is only one brand of SmartBoard - the SmartBoard by Smart
Technologies. However, there are other brands of Interactive White Boards.
We love our SmartBoards (planning to order 10 more next year). The
sales rep is local and willing to come by if we have a problem - she is
also a certified training and offers to help with periodic training.
Smart Tech is also constantly updating their software and image gallery.
I have only had experience with the Numonics Intelliboard, but I like it
very much, and the Numonics people are great(if you have a tech issue).
I've been to several technology conferences and the one thing I would reccommend
is to get a Smartboard that has a built in projector because without a projector
the Smartboard cannot be used. The one problem that occurs with the older
models is that the teacher/librarian casts a shadow on the board when they stand
in front of the projector. These are just things to ask the salesman when
determining which best suits your needs.
We've used both Smart Boards and Promethian boards in our district. You
might want to contact Ken Ainsworth
Ken_Ainsworth@msvl.k12.wa.us
He's our technology director and has gone from Smart to Promethian. I'm
not sure of all of his reasonings, but I know he wouldn't do this without
a lot of research.
We have used Mumonics' Virtual WhiteBoard. You have to buy the board. We
are moving to their Mobilepresenter. This is a wireless tablet and pen.
You have software on you computer and use a video projector and it has most
of the features of a Virtual Whiteboard. For $395. It is easy to move from
room to room. If you are spending big money. Contact the reps and have
them come out and give your teachers or a committee a demo. The AV man who
sell us the Virtual WhiteBoard brought both and sat them to up side. This
helped my teacher decide from this point on we will buy the mobile
presenters.
I think what you are asking is what brand of interactive whiteboard would
you suggest. SMART Board is a trademark of SMART Technologies. We have
SMART Boards in our schools. It is our system goal to have one in every
classroom by next year and we are well on our way. I highly recommend SMART
products. They are wonderful supporters of education. I am an Exemplary
Educator and they paid for me to go to Dallas for a SMART Teacher Conference
where I got additional training from the people who actually created the
software. Check out their website at: www.smarttech.com. You cannot go
wrong with SMART.
We love Promethean at our school - mainly because it was designed and
maintained for schools, not business, like many others. The software for
teachers is excellent.
