I am curious as to:
1. Who determines wheether a game is instructional or educational when students
are using the Internet? (NOTE: THIS IS NOTE A CENSORSHIP FILTERING DISCUSSION)
This is an already made decision....
I want to know if you:
just accept whatever the filtering software says it is or do you have any
specific criteria that you are using to determine instructioanl vs. recreational.
I allow students to email me requests to unblock sites.... I would like to have
some criteria in making a decision on instructioanl vs. recreational.
A student sent me a request today -- for runescape -- it is classified as a game
-- looks like a game to me -- but the student's request was this:
dear people of traffic control rune scape may be a game but it is educational at
the same time.it teaches u to mangage your bank accounts,(math)buy sell things(this
helps u prepare for money statagies)u enteract with others to build good
sportsmanship.tis game is not a terrible thing please hear me out and give this
game chance im begging you.
Interesting point made by the student -- so I am asking my fellow colleagues
their definition of recreational vs. instructional
Thanks
Paula
