I think the book you're looking for is "Gooney Bird Greene" by Lois Lowry. She also
has a sequel to it called "Gooney Bird and the Room Mother". Hope this helps!

Subject: Target: Do you know this book?
A couple of years ago I used an easy chapter book that was about a new student in
school who told stories all the time. None of the stories were believable but they
were all true and the whole class looked things up in reference materials. I think
one story was that she moved from China and she said the class needed to look at an
atlas to see how many towns named China were in the US. I am sure I have the name
and author in my old lesson plans but they are at home and of course I need the
information now. Thanks in advance
