So I count that book as having won both. Yes?

A few close encounters so to speak but NO book has won both.
A VISIT TO WILLIAMS BLAKE INN was the Newbery winner for Nancy
Willard and garnered a Caldecott HONOR for the Provensens.
One of Arnold Lobel's FROG AND TOAD books was a Newbery Honor one
year and another of his FROG AND TOAD books was a Caldecott HONOR the
following year. "For his Frog and Toad series of books, Arnold Lobel
has won BOTH Newbery and Caldecott Honor Medals. This is very unusual
for an author or illustrator."
Robert Lawson won the Caldecott for THEY WERE STRONG AND GOOD and a
few years later won the Newbery for RABBIT HILL.
Of course there is the Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis
which won the Newbery and the Coretta Scott King Award in the same
year. But that has nothing to do with the Caldecott.
