Thank you to all that replied to my request for titles of books about
learning from your mistakes for a 5th grader. Below is a summary of the
suggested titles.
Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster by Frasier. This is a picture book,
but Sage is in fifth grade.
Sounds like a job for Andrew Clements. This author writes many excellent
books about 5th-6th graders who grow and mature in their understanding of
themselves and in others' problems and points of view. We are currently
reading "Lunch Money," in which a boy and girl with personality conflicts
learn to work together for the common good, rather than seeing each other as
competitors. "A week in the woods" and "The school newspaper" would also be
good choices. "The janitor's boy" is excellent for race/class/poverty
relationships and understanding.
