[LM_NET] HIT: Converting Video to DVD

I had several requests for a hit on my question about converting video to be read 
by a dvd player, so, here’s my original question followed by everyone’s 
responses.

Hello everyone. I was so happy today when I had a teacher ask me for a Streaming 
Video from United Streaming. I was going to try out my BRAND NEW DVD burner from 
Sony. Well, imagine my shock when I realized you can't burn a Windows Media Player 
file to a DVD and have it play on a DVD player . . . duh. No problemo, I'll fire up 
the good old Nero and convert that sucker to at least an AVI. Um, actually, no I 
won't because Nero is a burning suite, not a converting suite. . . duh x2.  
So, who can recommend some good freeware that converts .wmf and it's brethren to 
a DVD player recognizable form? Anyone?

just copy the file on a cd, most dvd players will play cds

Real Player can convert also Iomega can convert as well.

I used Switch last year for audio - it was pretty easy to use and you can get a 
trial version.  I'm not sure if you can convert video with it or not.

At our school we will download the whole or parts of the United Streaming video to 
one of our servers. That prevents the download problem. Then the teacher hooks up 
his/her desktop or laptop to an LCD projector and connects to the file on the 
server. If that teacher's computer speakers aren't very good or the room is very 
large, I connect his/her computer to a good quality speaker. Normally you can use 
computer speakers.

if you'll go to the video file and change the extension from .asf to .asx, you can 
then use Nero (or Roxio) to import the file into the DVD creation page. THEN you 
can burn the DVD.

I use the free program "Super". I've used it to convert flash movies to avi and put 
a power point onto a dvd. I find it works well and haven't had any problems with 
it. It seems to convert from just about any format to any other. You can find it

If you can convert from Windows Media to Quicktime in the settings before you 
download it, you can view it on a reg DVD player.
