[LM_NET] Question about funding for trips

Reading about trips to New Orleans, etc had me wondering..how do you fund  
these?  In my old school system a local university gave us money for PD and  I 
attended many functions around the country and they paid for  
EVERYTHING...hotels, registration, mileage, and a per diem for food.  Now,  in my 
new system I 
can pay for registration with my Book Fair money, if  approved, but everything 
else comes out of my pocket.  Needless to say, my  traveling has been limited 
to things I can drive back and forth to,and with gas  prices like they are, 
even that is becoming a problem.
So, how do you do it?
