What a fabulous idea! I work in a well-to-do community and the parents'
auxiliary runs two book fairs a year. Parents do collect gently used books
to donate to the local children's hospital, but I love the idea of
buy-1-get-1-free for a needy group that might replace all or part of the
current "buy a book to donate to the library" we've had in place for years.
As it is, we get to choose which books they donate, but recently I requested
that if they liked they could donate toward the databases instead. After
all, kids use those a lot more than books, it seems. Your idea would satisfy
their need to buy "books" and make me feel a lot better about an
emarrassment of riches. I can't wait to suggest it to the committee!
